A pregnant Anna has been pulled from an elevator that Olivia Jerome had
rigged to crash.  She is in her hospital bed, and everything looks to be fine,
when she suddenly begins cramping.  The doctors clear the room and Duke is
left outside to pace and wait for news of Anna and the baby’s conditions.
Tiffany: Any news?
Duke: No.
Monica leaves Anna’s room.
Duke: How is she? Have you stopped the contractions?  Can I see her?
Monica: Uh, no, no, not now.  Duke, we did everything we could.  That fall was
just too traumatic...
Duke: Anna?
Monica: Well, she’s okay.  She lost the baby.
Duke is stricken.

Fade to black.

Duke: (to Tony and Monica) Look, why can’t I go see her?
He tries to push past them.
Tony: No, don’t… just hold on.  It won’t be long.
Monica: Dr. Collins will tell us when she’s done and when you can go in.  Okay?
Duke:  (upset) I don’t know what I’m supposed to do.  This wasn’t supposed
to be this way.  It’s our first baby.  We went shopping today… What am I
supposed to say to her?  I don’t know how I can make her feel better…
Dr. Collins comes out of the room and nods at Duke, indicating he can go in.
Monica pats him on the back and he slowly moves to the door with his head
down.  He enters the room in silence and sees Anna, who is lying on the bed,
facing away from the door, crying. Duke stands in the doorway watching her
for a moment, then she wipes her face and turns to look at him.  Their eyes
meet and he dissolves into tears as he walks to the bed.  They hold each other,
sobbing and rocking.  She strokes his hair as she tries to comfort him.
Anna: (whispers through tears) It’s okay.  It’s okay.  Shhhh… shhhh…
She kisses him on his ear.
Anna: Don’t cry… please…

Fade to black.

Anna and Duke are asleep.  Anna is in the bed, Duke is sitting next to the bed
with his head and torso on the bed by Anna’s hip.  Anna wakes but doesn’t
move.  She begins to cry quietly.  Duke awakens and looks up at her.
Duke: Hey…
Anna: My baby…
Duke: Hey… I’m here… it’s alright.
Anna: It’s true, isn’t it?  I lost the baby, didn’t I?
Their fingers entwine and she pulls him to her.  They hug and cry.

Fade to black.

Duke is sitting on the bed with Anna.
Anna: Why don’t you just go home now?  Go on.  You should get some rest.
Duke: I don’t wanna go home.  I wanna stay here.
Anna: I’m alright, just go.
Duke: I’m not leaving you.  I’m gonna stay right here.
Anna: How are we gonna tell Robin?  She thinks this baby was hers as well.  I
mean, it was.  How are we gonna tell her?
Duke: I don’t know.  I really don’t know.  I don’t think either of us know, but…
we’ll think about something when the time comes.
Anna: (begins to cry again) It was here yesterday, and now it’s gone.  What do
they do with it?  You know… do they… do they bury it?  Do you know whether
it was a boy or a girl?
Duke: I didn’t ask.  I don’t know.
Anna: Well, it’s best we don’t know, I suppose.  Um… I think it was a boy.  I
always think of him growing up.
Duke:  We’ll have more.  There’s lots of time.
Anna: I don’t want another one, I want that one!
Duke hugs and kisses her.
